Our Story & Vision

A family kitchen that grew into everyone's bakery.

Harika Cakes began the way most good things in Uganda begin — around a kitchen table, with flour on the counter and a family determined to make something worth sharing. Our founder, Harriet Kiconco, started baking for relatives and neighbours in Wakiso long before Harika had a name on a jar or a page on the internet. What started as birthday cakes for cousins and bread for Sunday breakfast slowly became requests from friends of friends, then orders from strangers who had tasted a slice at someone else's party and wanted their own. That is still, at its heart, exactly what Harika is: a home kitchen that opened its doors wide enough to feed a whole community.

Today Harika Cakes is a full home bakery, but we have never let go of the values that started it — real ingredients, real hands, and real care in every box that leaves our kitchen. Every cake is layered, filled and iced by hand. Every loaf of bread is proofed the slow way, not rushed. Every jar of honey we sell is pure and organic, sourced with the same standard we hold ourselves to. We do not see ourselves as a factory turning out identical products; we see ourselves as your neighbourhood bakery, the one you call when there is something to celebrate, or simply something to eat well.

Our vision is simple, and we say it often: to be the bakery Wakiso — and now, through WhatsApp, all of Uganda — turns to for anything baked. Not just cakes for the big days, but bread for the ordinary ones. Not just doughnuts for a Saturday treat, but honey for your tea every single morning. We want Harika to be the answer whenever someone asks, "where can I order this?" Whether it's a three-tier wedding cake with your initials in gold, a dozen mandazi for a school run, a pizza for a family night in, or a bottle of honey for a friend visiting from abroad — we want you to think of us first, and we want to say yes.

Behind every order is a small team led by Harriet herself, still hands-on in the kitchen, still tasting the batter, still checking that the icing is smooth before a cake leaves the house. We bake in small batches because that is how you keep quality honest. We answer our own WhatsApp because we want to hear exactly what you're celebrating, so we can bake for that moment specifically — not just any cake, but your cake. That closeness between baker and customer is something we protect fiercely as we grow, because it is the whole reason people keep coming back to Harika, order after order, celebration after celebration.
